McCallum Bagpipes AB1 Blackwood Bagpipe is a fully combed blackwood bagpipe with full blackwood projection mounts and beaded polished aluminium ferrules, polished aluminium slides and polished aluminium bass drop caps. A full alloy mouthpiece finishes off an amazing looking and great sounding instrument.

McCallum Bagpipes is market leader in highland bagpipes, with approx. 20.000 sets of bagpipes sold worldwide to date. Since starting production in 1998 McCallum Bagpipes has continued to improve the quality of their bagpipes, concentrating on sound, durability and overall performance. Some of the upgrades include:

1. Polished aluminium:
Polished aluminium replaced nickel metalwork (as used by most other bagpipe makers). Polished aluminium is lighter than nickel and stays shiny. It does not tarnish and therefore does not require polishing.

2. Threaded mounts:
Aluminium mounts are threaded and screwed on to the blackwood (also threaded), making sure they stay on. An additional advantage is that the mounts can be removed at a later date should you want to replace the mounts with a different style (e.g. engraved mounts).

2. Sound:
Internal dimension of the bass drone bore was increased to help produce more depth of sound and richer harmonics. The drone top bells on the bass drone and on the tenors drones were modified to further improve sound and harmonics.

The bagpipe can be ordered as a full set (ready to play), sticks only, or simply deselect the components you do not require (you may already have drone reeds, chanter, bagpipe cover etc.). We offer a very wide selection of components; bags, drone reeds, chanters etc.. With our system you can order a set of McCallum bagpipes with a different brand chanter (e.g. Shepherd chanter, R.G. Hardie etc.), the choice is yours.
